You’ve uploaded to Newsflare, been lucky enough to have some quick fire news sales but what happens next?
Licensing to TV shows makes up a large part of sales going through Newsflare’s platform and offers a great way to not only generate higher revenue, but have your videos shown on some of your favourite clip shows.
Chances are we’ll have production clients looking for clips like yours. We work with many around the world, all with diverse video needs, who we pitch relevant content to. But they’ll also be scouring the depths of the archive, so how can you maximise the chances of your videos surfacing and being licensed?
Tags and description
The best way is to have your videos seen first. Appearing as close to the top of page 1 of a search is key to getting your video surfaced. Include as many relevant tags as possible; if you were searching for your video what keywords would you search? Include tags that are both broad and narrow. Here is a great example from user Vivafrei (first video when you search ‘animals’) who filmed an anteater in a zoo enclosure. Tags included the animal species, broad ‘animal’, location of zoo etc

A good description of what happened not only helps editorially, but beefs up the metadata which our search engine uses to deliver search results.
Thumbnail and title
You’ve included great tags / description and are top of the search result – now how do you entice researchers to click on and view your video? Simple – have a great thumbnail and title. The title should be descriptive but brief, quickly summing up the video in 4 / 5 words. This thumbnail from user Guangzhu is my all time favourite. Whilst at the extreme end, it shows how an engaging thumbnail and concise title combined can quickly sum up the action of the video.

Up-to-date location and time/date
Ensure all other relevant information is up to date and accurate, it’s important that we can provide clients with accurate location and time/date data so they know when and where a video happened. If researchers feel they need to double check with us, it risks your clip dropping off their list for various reasons, they forget to ask to check data, time pressures etc.
