We’ve seen that holiday videos are becoming a source of cash for a growing number of UK holiday makers. A modern-day group of consumers have found ways of recouping the costs, whether big or small, from their time away from home.
Howard Newman, 69, became an unwitting internet star earlier last month after borrowing his son’s GoPro to record his trip to the popular European city – only to accidentally film himself for the entire trip!
His son Mark posted the comical clips online after his father returned home from the Netherlands to find that instead of tulips, canals, art and architecture there were hours and hours of just Howard and occasionally his wife.
Mark Newman said; “My parents went viral due to my dad’s mishap and confusion on which way the GoPro should have been pointing. This wasn’t due to it being confusing but more of a case of the older generation not getting on with modern technology.
“We’re glad he did. The video made for an unusual holiday memento and brought in some financial reward.”
Other recent examples include Walter, a golden Labrador, taking the best route to the beach; and French tour guide Kevin Labbe, who made hundreds of pounds after shooting some point of view footage zip-lining high above the Loboc River in the Philippines using his SJCam. The rewards aren’t mega-bucks but certainly give vacation spending money a big boost.
If you’re going on holiday this Summer, be sure to pack your cameras, your GoPros and your phones because you never know when your videos could break into the news and earn you some money!
